THE HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH: A HISTORY OF AMERICAN AMUSEMENT PARKS, PART 1, WITH DR. DAVID PARSONS | 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Part of the Fifty and Better Summer Lecture Series. Modern amusement parks like Disneyland and Universal Studios are icons of late 20th century popular culture, but the history of the amusement park stretches back centuries. A NEW VIEW OF GOD AND ITS EFFECT ON WELL BEING | 11 a.m. After living for years with a debilitating injury diagnosed as permanently disabling, Phillip Hockley began investigating ways to improve his situation, finding hope and healing through Christian Science. “MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS” MURAL UNVEILING AND COMMUNITY RESOURCE FAIR | 11 a.m.-3 p.m. In the fall of 2021, youth and other local volunteer artists dedicated over 2,000 hours to develop a 79-foot mural, inspired by the need for mental health awareness, next to Del Sol Park. The term “genocide” was coined in the 1940s, although genocides have occurred repeatedly since the beginning of time. Why? And what exactly is a genocide? What is the difference between physical genocide and cultural genocide? The Olivas Adobe is now open the second Sunday of each month for visitors, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. The historic park invites all plein air artists to come out to the site for creative inspiration, from the rose garden and 160-year-old fuchsia to the rancho and the bell tower.
